Imagine this scenario: you come back from work and get ready to take a well deserved break by surfing the web. You open your web browser and click on your bookmarks to find out you lost all your bookmarks. It seems something happen to your computer and now you lost all your bookmarks that you have been saving for all this years, half of them you don’t even remember the links and some were probably important. Or you just got your brand new computer, install firefox web browser and realized that all your bookmarks are on the old computer.

This tutorial will help you out backup all your bookmarks in firefox web browser. Preventing any data lost and helping you carry then whenever you need them.

Backing up your bookmarks

1.On you firefox tool bar click click “Bookmarks” and then select Bookmarks (or click Ctrl+Shift+D)

This will bring you a window with the title Library

2. Here click on “Import and Backup” here you will see several options for backing up and restoring
The one that says “Backup...” will backup your bookmarks on firefox default extension (.json “JavaScript Object Notation) and will give it a default file name by date “Bookmarks YYYY-MM-DD”. This is great to keep multiple backup sorted by date.

The other option you have is “Export HTML…”which backs up the file with extension “.html” which is most commonly used withweb browsers like Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE). This is a great option in case you actually want to restore your saved firefox bookmarks on Internet Explorer (favorites) or any other web browser that support the .HTML extension for restores (or Import).
The default file name will be “bookmarks.html”

Once you click on either option for Backing up your bookmarks, a Windows will appear giving you the option on where to save the file. And you will have the option to change the default file name (see above for default names).

Once you decide on the name of the file and location click on Save

That’s it you just made a backup of your firefox web browser bookmarks and you are ready to restore them or deploy them to any other machine as needed.
