On a previous tutorial we showed you how to backup your Firebox web browser bookmarks to prevent data lost and to have them ready whenever you need them.

Today we are going to show you how to backup your Internet Explorer web browser favorites

Backing your Internet Explorer favorites

Open Internet Explorer and on the Tool bar (top left) click on “File”, and then on “Import and Export…”

This will open the Wizard. Click on “next” to start.

Here you have several options. We want to backup only your Favorites so then click on “Export Favorites” and then on “next”

Here you will have a list of your current favorites and it gives you the options of which folders to export (or backup). We leave the default “Favorites” folder and click “next“

On the next window you will have an option to Export to an Application or Export to a File or Address. Select “Export to a File or Address” and then on the “browse…” button to select the name and the location of where you want the file saved. By default it is given the file name “bookmark.htm”. Change it if you need a more descriptive name like “bookmark 2009-04-03” so you know from what date that version of the backup is. Once done click next.

That’s it your favorites have been backup up to a “.html” file. You can now click finish.

At this point you should check the location where you saved the file to ensure the backup was created. If everything looks fine you are ready to restore your favorites on any computer with Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE).
